Open Core Protocol International Partnership (OCP-IP)
OCP-IP is a ground-breaking industry association dedicated to making a common standard for intellectual property core interfaces, or sockets, that facilitate 'plug and play' SOC design.
To make complex SOC design a reality for a broader audience, the industry needs a complete socket standard that everyone can use, no matter what their on-chip architecture is, or whose processor cores they're using.

OpenFire Processor - Free Xilinx Microblaze Clone
The OpenFire soft processor is an open source Verilog implementation of the Xilinx MicroBlaze processor.
Like the MicroBlaze, the OpenFire is a 32-bit RISC processor based on the DLX architecture by Hennessy and Patterson.
The OpenFire was developed by Stephen Craven, a PhD student at Virginia Tech, specifically for configurable array research.
As such, certain features of the MicroBlaze were not initially implemented.
The original...

PacoBlaze - free soft core for Xilinx
PacoBlaze is a from-scratch synthesizable & behavioral Verilog clone of Ken Chapman's popular PicoBlaze embedded microcontroller.
KCAsm is a lightweight PicoBlaze assembler written in Java.
While Ken's version aims toward the most efficient implementation in the Xilinx FPGA architecture, PacoBlaze tries to be as configurable as possible, maintaining source code compatibility and code cycle accuracy with the original PicoBlaze.
It also...

SoCs: Thirst for smarter devices
Every year the innovation behind Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) seems to make great strides forward.
Semiconductor manufacturers are laying down more transistors, enabling designers to make more complex systems.
As Intellectual Property (IP) blocks keep emerging, designers are gaining a bigger bag of parts to select from.
Meanwhile, tool designers are innovating better ways for more effective SoC development.
All these factors are helping produce affo...
