ARCnet
To start off, ARCnet is not a standardized network. All information provided here is gathered through the years by different people and by just making mistakes, so if you have other experiences don't be surprised, but share them with us. This way we can all learn from it. ARCnet (Attached Resource Computer NETwork) was originally developed by Datapoint Corporation in 1968, way before OSI and the like. The original purpose was a harddisk...

ARCnet (Attached Resource Computer Network) (CR)
ARCnet Topology is star and bus or a mixture. Cable type is RG-62 A/U coaxial (93 ohm), UTP or fiber-optic. A network can use any combination of this media. Connectors used include BNC, RJ-45, and others. It passes tokens passing for media access. Maximum segment length is 600 meters with RG-62 A/U, 121 meters with UTP, 3485 meters with fiber-optic, and 30 meters from a passive hub. It may use active and passive hubs. The specification is...

ARCNET Overview
IEEE standard 802.3, Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM), approved this July, standardizes broadband Ethernet, allowing service providers to focus on providing critical broadband services without worrying about interoperability conflicts. This book will annotate and explain the dense language of the standard document, taking particular care how to explain how the EFM dovetails with other standards. For engineers struggling with the standard,...

AVR picoPower™ Technology - The Ultimate Low Power Solution

Embedded applications normally spend their time either in active or in sleep mode – some periods the CPU is running code and processing something while the rest of the time the microcontroller is waiting or idling and should stay in a low power mode. With more and more portable and hand-held applications, wireless networks and sensors, and battery operated appliances, sleep modes have become important. Nevertheless it is equally important that the MCU is able to deliver performance without ruining the power budget while the CPU is active. Atmel's picoPower™ technology saves energy while maintaining MCU performance. picoPower enabled microcontrollers incorporate a number of techniques for reducing the power consumption in both active and sleep modes and still react quickly from any sleep mode.
