COM Express Versus ETX
Prior to the ratification in July 2005 of the PICMG COM Express standard, the embedded industry lacked a truly open standard for computer-on-modules. Among the many competing proprietary definitions, ETX had gained the most traction.

ETX takes on Ruggedized Computing
The use of mobilized computing in the military has grown at an astounding rate over the last few years. As new technology becomes available, higher performing portable systems provide the soldier with tools that help complete critical missions. One of these new technologies that has helped to advance the development of the communication battlefield is the embedded computer module (ECM). ECMs provide all of the functionality...

XTX Consortium
XTX is an expansion and continuation of the well-established and highly successful ETX® standard. XTX offers the newest I/O technologies on this proven form factor. Now that the ISA bus is being used less and less in modern embedded applications XTX offers an array of different features on the X2 connector than those currently found on the ETX® platform. These features include new serial high speed buses such as PCI Express and Serial...

ETX (form factor) from Wikipedia
ETX, standing for Embedded Technology eXtended, computer-on-module (COM) is a highly integrated and compact (3.7 x 4.4 in.) (95 x 114 mm) that can be used in a design application much like an integrated circuit component. Each ETX COM integrates core CPU and memory functionality, the common I/O of a PC/AT (serial, parallel, etc.), USB, audio, graphics, and Ethernet. All I/O signals as well as a full implementation of ISA and PCI buses are...

AVR picoPower™ Technology - The Ultimate Low Power Solution

Embedded applications normally spend their time either in active or in sleep mode – some periods the CPU is running code and processing something while the rest of the time the microcontroller is waiting or idling and should stay in a low power mode. With more and more portable and hand-held applications, wireless networks and sensors, and battery operated appliances, sleep modes have become important. Nevertheless it is equally important that the MCU is able to deliver performance without ruining the power budget while the CPU is active. Atmel's picoPower™ technology saves energy while maintaining MCU performance. picoPower enabled microcontrollers incorporate a number of techniques for reducing the power consumption in both active and sleep modes and still react quickly from any sleep mode.
